VIDEO PREMIERE: BACK TO SCHOOL, IN CHINA

Caffe-In (China/Japan)
"Go, Caterpillar"

Here's one dedicated to all you parents who sent their kids back to school a few weeks ago, and also to you kids who had to go! Caffe-in is an unusual combination of Japanese and Chinese musical talents, and the band is quite popular in the Beijing music scene.  Although they describe their music as rock/punk/ska, this particular song is sugary pop, and could easily be destined to be a favorite amongst grammar school and kindergarten teachers.

"Go Caterpillar - walk your own path
Don't let anyone stop you
Maybe others won't understand
In this small body I have a huge dream
Go Caterpillar - don't give up your goals"

It's a good band too, but we think the kids really carry the day on this one.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: SITA GOT A RAW DEAL!

Sita Sings the Blues
Nina Paley: director, writer, animator

"...I put on the DVD and start watching. I am enchanted. I am swept away. I am smiling from one end of the film to the other. It is astonishingly original."  --Roger Ebert

We think this would get Joseph Campbell smiling too! Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is a cartoonist whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets contribute traditional and modern takes on the epic story, the Ramayana.  Set to the classic 1920s torch songs of Annette Hanshaw, "Sita Sings the Blues" earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."

ON THE BLOG: A TEASER FROM JAIR OLIVERIA

If you watch our premieres and blocks you know Jair Oliveira's songs "Intacto" and "Tiro Onda." Jair was in our studio the other day, and he gave us an impromtu performance of one of the songs off his latest CD, which is dedicated to his 2 year old daughter Isabella, and is now  nominated for a Latin Grammy. The song is delightful ode called "Showertime." This is just a teaser though.  He sang us five songs in all, so keep an eye out on the blog for a much more extensive interview and more music from this wonderfully sunny Brazilian.
