Where do you stand on the file-sharing debate? On NME we're in a tricky position, given that we give away a lot of free music via the Daily Download and Radar blogs (see the Editors track, left).

At the same time, we support new music, and we know all too well how piracy affects baby bands: it's often the difference between them being able to support themselves via their music, and having to get day jobs.

Hypocrisy? I don't think so, because there's a world of difference between a band releasing a specific track of their choice to blogs for promotion purposes, and file-sharers stealing entire albums at will. Hopefully, when you discover a new band through NME, you'll go on to see them live, visit their Myspace, and maybe buy their next EP.

That's the idea, anyway. It's a thorny issue for sure, and one that's been raging on the office blog for days. Come let us know what you think.
