Peter Gabriel's song-swap album gets release date, live shows

Way back when we announced that Peter Gabriel was to release a song-swap album, covering the works of Bon Iver and various others, like the Magnetic Fields, we were at least mildly intrigued and at most massively fascinated.

Since then, the details have been shored up a little, with the record - entitled Scratch My Back due for release on February 15, through Virgin Records.

There's also a couple of O2 Arena shows which have been pulled out of thin air, and will be launching the album. They take place on March 27 and 28, with tickets available through Womad NOW. They're selling for £40 and £50 quid, though, which isn't exactly cheapy-chirpy.

The tracklisting, as reported, is below:

  1. 'Heroes' by David Bowie
  2. 'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' by Radiohead
  3. 'The Book Of Love' by Magnetic Fields
  4. 'Flume' by Bon Iver
  5. 'My Body Is A Cage' by Arcade Fire
  6. 'Listening Wind' by Talking Heads
  7. 'I Think It's Going to Rain Today' by Randy Newman
  8. 'Après Moi'
  9. 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks
  10. 'The Boy In The Bubble' by Paul Simon
  11. 'The Power Of The Heart' by Lou Reed
  12. 'Philadelphia' by Neil Young
  13. 'Mirrorball' by Elbow

Below is a very amusingly put together video for Gabriel's cover of The Magnetic Fields' 'The Book Of Love'. You are highly unlikely to be disappointed with this, I guarantee it.

A true beaut.

Lightspeed Champion celebrates Elvis' birthday with a cover

Today would have been Elvis Presley's 75th birthday. He's dead now 'cause he popped too many pills and ate too many cheesburgers in a very short space of time, but he went out in a fairly legendary way, in a style fit for a king. Specifically: Henry VIII.

The artist who goes by the name of Lightspeed Champion, as a tribute to The King, has recorded a version of 'Devil In Disguise' and, fortunately for us lot, has made it available to download, for free, for the next few weeks. Thanks, Dev!

Here's what he had to say about it:

Due to a popular band having left over studio time at New York's historic Avatar Studios, I had the opportunity to going into Studio A and record some music.. obviously I decided an Elvis song would be best. I got my friends form the band Spacecamp down and together we recorded an "almost" live version of Devil In disguise with the help of whoever was in the building that felt like singing... including the receptionist.

The sad news? Is that trying to fill such a huge role, I realised I was better than everyone else in the world, I packed my bags, and moved to Los Angeles in hopes of everyone else catching up with my sudden realisation... I was wrong.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELVIS! LONG LIVE THE KING !!!!!!!

The new Lightspeed Champion album comes out on February 15 through Domino, and is called Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You. There's also a few more live tracks available to download in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, I'd advise.

As if you hadn't heard enough about Animal Collective in the past 18 months or so! OK, it's a possibility. Regardless of that, we're going to bring to you a new video for 'Brother Sport', taken from the world acclaimed Long Player that is Merriweather Post Pavillion.

Directed by Jack Kubizne and assisted by Chris Beegle, watch it below:

If that song/video combination doesn't have you yearning for the Summer to return quick-smart, what will?

If you want to catch them in the next few months...you can't. Unless you live in New York, in which case head over to the American Museum of Natural History, where they play with Fischersponer. TO-NITE!
